PICTOGRAPH

DISCOVERING, SURVEYING & RECORDING ANCIENT ROCK IMAGES.

"Africa's rock art is the common heritage of all Africans and all people. It is the common heritage of humanity. As populations increase and vandalism and theft of Africa's rock art are on the rise, this irreplaceable resource is highly threatened. It is time for Africa's leaders to take a new and more active role. We must save this cultural heritage before it is too late."

Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan

Introduction

A Pictograph is a human-made marking drawn or carved on natural stone. It is found in many culturally diverse regions of the world and has been produced throughout human history. Here are a collection of images and virtual tours of Neolithic rock art that we have discovered over the years. It is part of an ongoing project involving The Trust for African Rock Art and British Exploring Society.
